Implantable Contact Lenses.

Implantable Contact Lens (also known as an implantable collamer lens or ICL) is a procedure designed to offer you freedom from glasses or contact lenses. These aids are needed to improve vision in the following conditions:

  • Short-sightedness or myopia

  • Long-sightedness or hyperopia

  • Astigmatism where the front of the eye is shaped like a rugby ball instead of a football

ICL is usually recommended in a specific group of patients who have a spectacle prescription that is too high for laser eye surgery and are over the age of 18.

In this procedure, a custom-made implant is placed between your iris (the coloured part of the eye) and your natural lens using a tiny incision (less than 3mm). It works exactly like a contact lens except that it remains permanently in place and does not require any cleaning. It cannot be seen or felt once it is in place.

Where will I have my ICL surgery?

I operate at Vision Care Clinic, which is a leading private eye clinic at the Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital.
